Village Church – Open day

Have you seen inside? It has been here for about 800 years.
We are continuing to open St James’ church on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30am to 12:30pm. You are most welcome to come in to see your village church; to sit quietly and reflect, or just have a tea or coffee and a look around.

The next open days are 7 April and 5 May.

JACOB AND THE SMARTIE TUBES

For about fifteen years the people of St James’ Church have been helping the Rev Jacob Tshingwana, an Anglican priest in Zimbabwe and the people in his parishes. His life is probably as hard now as it has ever been. Having suffered violence and persecution in his role as priest which resulted in hardship and broken limbs, life hasn’t improved.

An extract from a letter from Jacob reads,
‘If the situation does not change some families here in the country will die of starvation. The Country is running short of food (mealie meal). Here where we are is very far from the grain depot, prices are very high. Only a few people can manage to buy rice. It is very expensive.’

Do you sow the grain and pray for rain and a good harvest, or do you eat that grain to relieve today’s hunger?

During the period of Lent when we reflect upon our relationship with God and our place in his creation, let us remember Jacob and his people. They also have a place and a share equal to ours in that creation.

As before we are using Smartie tubes for you to take and hopefully fill with money. The filled tubes can be returned at our service on Easter Sunday or at any time.

All money goes directly to Jacob, in 2006 we sent him £1500, we would like to better that this year with your help. The Smartie tubes will be available in church during Lent, or you can use one of your own.

The people in Little Paxton can make a difference for the people in Gwelutshena, Zimbabwe.

If you would like more information contact a churchwarden, Alf Gower (217529) or Ken Bowles (473465).

Thank you.
