Welcome
Welcome to the Little Paxton Parish Council Website

Little Paxton is a village with a population of around 3,000 and is situated approximately two miles north of the market town of St. Neots. The Great Ouse River forms the boundary to the south-east, the river forms part of the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest giving the area statutory protection. The Reserve which boasts a large variety of meadow plants, includes a Visitors Centre, a footpath network, including two nature trails and observation points for bird watchers, it is of considerable nature conservation value, especially for certain species of wildfowl. In particular, Paxton Pits accommodates one of the largest inland Cormorant colonies in the UK.

This web site is brought to you on behalf of the villagers of Little Paxton by the Parish Council. The council can be contacted by email: littlepaxton@hotmail.com - or your comments about the Council, the Village or this web site can be made using the Forums. (Click Here)

After winning the Peterborough & Cambridgeshire Village of the Year Award in 2007, the Little Paxton went on to enter into further rounds of the National Competition earlier this year.

Parish Council Chairman Alan Denison and Vice Chairman Peter Hagger attended the Award Ceremony at The Guildhall and were presented with the Award Certificate. The event was compared by Bill Turnbull.

Cllr Alan Denison said’ We are absolutely delighted to win this Award and it will be displayed prominently in the Village’.

The winner of the Village of the Year England was Levington and the UK winner was Isle of Barra.

Local History Group

A weekend in October saw our St James’ Church full of interesting exhibits connected to various aspects of our village history. These exhibits included the bones of mammoths found at Paxton Pits, various items from the County Archives, information on the old Mill site, research into those from the village who lost the their lives in the Great War, transcriptions from the Parish Registers and early census returns, memorabilia and lots more. Several visitors showed an interest in starting some sort of Local History Society and a number of us are willing to try and get something under way. Currently we think such a group could study the history of the Little Paxton area and assist members study their family history. So whatever you are interested in with regards to local history, whether it is pre history, Victorian period, your own family history or social history in general please contact one of the people named below. Provided we get enough expressions of interest we will organise a meeting sometime early next year.

Peter Hagger (01480 477978), Leslie Tennant (01480 212601) or Dennis Flavell (01480 405511).
